How to type X with Fcitx?

This article addresses common questions about typing with Fcitx.

To enter anything when using Fcitx, type what you want to type and then press the space bar. Fcitx will provide predictions for the characters you intend to insert. If the prediction is incorrect, continue pressing the space bar until you find the correct one.

Small kana

To type ぁぃぅぇぉゃゅょ, type x before each corresponding sound. E.g., to type , you actually type xyu.

Repetition symbol 々

The character can be spelled noma because it resembles the katakana ノマ smashed together. Alternatively, you can try onaji.

Yen symbol ¥

Press (backslash). Find among the predictions. Alternatively, type えん and find ¥ in the conversion candidates.

Whitespace

The " " (blank space) can be spelled as kankaku.

Asterisk ※

Type komejirushi or hoshi.

Middle dot ・

Type nakaten or nakaguro.

N

Typing "xn" outputs ん.

Overline  ̄

Type うえ.

Note: Overlines are used in the NHK accent dictionary to mark high pitch accent, e.g. いっぱい ̄. When pitch drops, slashes are used .

lambda λ

らむだ can give you the greek symbol λ

Pound £

ぽんど can give you the British pound symbol £.

Arrows

やじるし can give you any arrow. みぎ can give you , ひだり can give you , etc.
